Miracles

Hey yall!

I hope everyone had a great week! Here are a few things that happened this week:

- Our friend Gaston accepted the invitation to be baptized! When we first started teaching him he didn't know if there was a God, so it has been so cool to see him come to know his Heavenly Father and Savior. Throughout the lesson we asked him questions to see if he had a testimony and when we asked him if he believed Joseph Smith was a prophet and restored the Church of Jesus Christ on the earth, he responded "I wouldn't be here having lessons with you if I didn't believe that." Such a good response! He came to church again on Sunday and was taking notes...so tender. Please pray that he will get baptized!

- We met a man from India last week and taught him a couple of times this week. He doesn't speak Spanish, so we teach him in English....it's so hard. He really wants to know if this is the true church, so he is praying. He is super smart, so it's driving him crazy to not have an answer. His lessons are always so interesting and he has so many questions.

- I was able to talk to some good people on the bus! Before I sit down I try to guess who is not from Uruguay and will actually be open to listening to a message...then I sit by them. It's a fun game! This week I met people from Peru, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and Cuba.

- I had intercambios with Hermana Finch! It was fun and we saw so many miracles.

- We have officially tried every method of finding and every way to start a conversation. We have been trying to get creative and it is fun! (We asked someone to use their bathroom to get into an apartment, complimented people, talked about mate, talked to people at the bank, panaderia, bus, parks, and everywhere we go)

- Hermana Bateman and I made arrepas this week and they turned out....a miracle!

- We went to Starbucks a couple of times! They always spell my name wrong and it's the funniest thing. I've gotten Cler, Clear....

- It got cold here this weekend so we started wearing our coats, hats, and gloves. I have also been listening to Christmas music because it feels like December!

We have been seen so many miracles this week. I love this quote by President Nelson, " I plead with you to take charge of your testimony of Jesus Christ. Work for it. Own it. Care for it. Nurture it so that it will grow....Then watch for miracles to happen in your life." If we put Jesus first in our lives and work to come to know Him, we will see miracles. God loves us and blesses us with miracles everyday!

Have an miracle-filled week!

Fairytales

Hey yall!

I hope yall had a great week! This week we have been continuing the finding grind. We talked to so many people, but it has been hard to find people that are interested. One day while we were contacting in the streets on the way to a lesson, we were able to teach a man as we were walking alongside him. We thought he was interested, so the next day we texted him. He responded, "Sorry, I don't believe in fairytales." We got a good laugh out of that.

On Tuesday we had intercambios! I was with my friend from Artigas, Hermana Brito! It was a good break and we had a lot of fun.

On Friday my comp and I went to seminary. We were able to talk to the youth about serving missions and our daily lives as missionaries. They had lots of questions and are hyped to accompany us in lessons!

We have a friend named Gaston that we have been teaching for a few weeks. We found him watching a fútbol game on the beach. He doesn't have much of a religious background and we have been trying to get him to pray since the first lesson. This week he finally did it! It was special to see him pray for the first time and he came to church on Sunday!

Sunday night we went to a members house who is from Venezuela and they taught us how to make arrapas! Arrepas are soooo good!

I made mate celestial for the first time this week because it's starting to get cold. It's hot chocolate with coconut as the yerba.. I attatched a pic! Basically an American version of mate.

I read a talk this week by President Monson about how we are never alone. Even though sometimes we feel like we are walking by ourselves, God is always with us. He is there beside us during our trials. I love this part: "Heavenly Father loves you—each of you. That love never changes. It is not influenced by your appearance, by your possessions, or by the amount of money you have in your bank account. It is not changed by your talents and abilities. It is simply there. It is there for you when you are sad or happy, discouraged or hopeful. God’s love is there for you whether or not you feel you deserve love. It is simply always there." God loves us and will help us overcome the difficulties we face everyday!

Have a great week!

Breakups

Hey yall!

Happy Mother's day! I am so grateful for my mom, she is the best! She is so understanding, always helps me feel like I am enough, and gives the best encouragement! She loves like Christ. I miss her so much and hope I can be like her one day.

This week was full of heart breaks. A few of our friends told us they don't want to meet anymore....so we ate a lot of dulce de leche this week to cope. We had one friend named Ricardo, he came to church every week, read the book of mormon everyday, and told us he felt so much peace in the church. However, Satan got to him and he told us he can't keep meeting with us. We were shook. Our friend, Sofo, is moving to the interior of the country for a few months so won't be able to meet with us anymore. It is sad because he was so cool and had so much interest. And we had a few other people tell us they aren't interested. It's super sad to see people reject the gospel, but I know God has a plan for them and they will accept it in His timing.

Some other news:

- We have been getting to know a lot of members and it's so fun! We had a noche de hogar with one of my favorite families and the other hermanas in our ward.

- We had a member come to a lesson with our friend Naileth. She is from Venezuela. They became best friends, it was so cool to see this member minister to and help Naileth.

- Starbucks is right by our church...the white hot chocolate is dangerous, but so good!

- I have helped Hermana Bateman like mate!

- We had zone conference this week and I got to see my old comp, Hermana Barlow, and some other friends.

- Our pday hours got changed, so now we have work hours at night:(

I have been trying to see Gods hand in my daily life and have started writing down things I pray for. Then I review the list and write down how God answered my prayer. Your should try it...its cool to see how God answers our prayers in His way! God loves you!

Have a great week!

Taxi!

Hey yall!

Not too much exciting happened this week, I am just still trying to get adjusted to the big city!

Ice cream always help :)

On Tuesday on our way back to our area after district council I started talking to our taxi driver. After talking for a minute I found out that he was from Venezuela. He also told me that his daughter has a friend that just left on a mission. I was able to tell him a little about our purpose as missionaries and gave him a Book of Mormon. We got his daughters phone number and had a lesson with her this week! It was a cool experience because I was super tired when I got into the taxi and didn't want to talk to him, but I remembered something my brother told me "forgetting yourself as a missionary means when there is something you don't want to do, do it." I don't know if his daughter will progress, but from this experience I learned that the Lord is aware of us and will help us if we open our mouth. It was a much needed miracle!

Our ward has an english class on Thursdays and a man we met a few weeks ago came! He is from Africa and played for Nacional (one of the huge fútbol teams here and knows Suárez)! We were able to have a lesson with him and he came to a baptism that was at our church building on Saturday.

Sunday I had to give another talk at church:) and we had some visits with members! One of the members house has the BEST view of the beach! I attached a photo.

I love the quote "Your future us as bright as your faith." Sometimes on the mission its hard to have the faith that everything will go according to Gods plan. But I am learning that if we exercise faith in God and do our part, everything will work out.

Have a great week!
